FAQs

Q. What does Schweigen mean?
A. Schweigen is the German word for 'silent'.

Q. Why is Schweigen the most energy efficient rangehood on the market?
A. Schweigen rangehoods cost less than the average light globe to run.

Q. How can you have a 'silent' exhaust system?
A. We removed the fan from the rangehood and attached it to the roof (or wall outlet) with a length of acoustic ducting. This means the motor (where all the noise comes from) is located outside. This design has been successfully implemented in ducted vacuum systems around the world.

Q. Are Schweigen rangehoods really Australia's quietest? How can you prove it?
A. The Schweigen system is unique. Common sense dictates that placing the loudest part of the rangehood (the motor) outside will significantly decrease the noise level. For a demonstration, visit your local Schweigen dealer.

Q. What type of lighting do these units have?
A. Schweigen exhaust units have either halogen (GU10) or LED lights to illuminate the entire working area. The light emitted from halogen down lights is significantly brighter and clearer than regular bulb lights.

Q. What about spare parts and service backup?
A. Schweigen have qualified servicemen throughout Australia. We carry local stock of most spare parts.

Q. I have heard other manufacturers claim their rangehoods are very quiet?
A. There is no other exhaust system on the market that comes close to the Schweigen system for noise level. All traditional rangehoods have an internal motor, which means the more powerful the unit, the more noise generated.

Q. I've heard of an in line motor system (or booster motor) - is this the same as the Schweigen system?
A. No. In line/ booster motors are still located inside the house, whereas Schweigen units are located outside the house.

Q. Can we fit the Schweigen motor to our existing rangehood?
A. No, the safety protection engineered into the Schweigen exhaust systems are patented and fitting the unit to a conventional rangehood would be dangerous.

Q. How much flexi ducting comes with our silent rangehoods?
A. 3 to 4metres for Isodrive 650 motors and 5 to 6metres for Isodrive1600 motors.

Q. Can I install the rangehood/cooker myself?
A. In order for all warranties to stand, we recommend that you use a licensed electrician to install any rangehood or cooker electrical fittings.

Q. What kind of connection point is requried to run the rangehood and motor?
A. A standard GPO connection.

Q. Minimum height for rangehoods to be installed from flame tip?
A. Indoor rangehoods should be installed at a minimum height of 750mm above the pan support on gas cooktops and at a minimum height of 650mm above the top of an electric cooktop.

Q. Do I need to buy anything extra in order to install the silent rangehood?
A. Everything you need comes in the box with the exception of roof flashing, your installer will need to provide this depending on the type of installation.

Q. Do you sell direct to public?
A. No.

Q. Does the rangehood come in other colours?
A. Yes it can, but please call our customer service line on 1300 881 693 for more information.

Q. What is the required distance between rangehood and cooktop?
A. Yes, after installation of your product, the distance between rangehood and cooktop should be min 65cm and gas should be min 75cm. Important: Please install your rangehood in accordance with local laws.
